Late last year, Topgolf announced that it will open a Germantown location. Now, the company has plans to open another location at the National Harbor.
Topgolf, the driving range/bar and restaurant chain, was unanimously approved by the Prince Georges County Planning Board to build a new location near the National Harbor. The new location will be built on a 15-acre site located off Oxon Hill Road, where investors were at one time considering building a Walmart location. The National Harbor location is the second of two new Maryland locations the company has plans to open. In December of last year, Topgolf announced that a Germantown location will open sometime in 2018. The Prince Georges County location will have a 64,232-square foot building, which will house restaurant space, a 400-car parking capacity space and 102 bays. Topgolf is a high-tech driving range facility and premier golf entertainment complex which has infrared heated, climate controlled hitting bays as well as cooling water misters for patrons to use when the weather is balmy. In each of the TopGolf facilities, the hitting bays typically have seating for up to six people, from which you can order food and drinks. The Germantown location will also be a 65,000-square foot facility and will be located on Century Boulevard along I-270 and Germantown Road.
When the Prince Georges County facility opens, it may become the chain’s new Flagship location. Topgolf of Alexandria is the current flagship location and the very first Topgolf to open.
However, the land Topgolf Alexandria is located on “is being considered for a comprehensive plan amendment which would allow for a mix of residential and retail uses.” Under lease agreements, Topgolf would no longer be the space’s leaser if the company were to gain approval for a new location, during the same time in which rezoning gained approval. Topgolf National Harbor has already reached a 20-year lease agreement, which is expected to bring hundreds of jobs to the county as well as lucrative construction contracts and construction jobs, while much of the same is expected to occur as plans commence on the Germantown location.
