WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — If you are traveling in north Wichita this weekend, plan on extra time for detours. The Kansas Department of Transportation is closing both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 135 in north Wichita, all day Saturday, May 10, and some of Sunday, May 11.

The construction closures begin at 5 a.m. Saturday and affect I-135 and some ramps onto I-135 around the North Junction Project.

Southbound I-135 and ramp closures

Southbound I-135 will be closed from the Kansas Highway 254 interchange to just south of the Kansas Highway 96 interchange. The Interstate 235 ramps to I-135, the newly constructed I-235 ramp to K-96, and the K-96 ramp to southbound I-135 will also be closed. The southbound I-135 lanes and the ramps should reopen by midday Sunday.

Northbound I-135 and ramp closures

Northbound I-135 will be closed around the K-96 interchange. Northbound drivers will be detoured to eastbound K-96, exiting at Hillside and using westbound K-96 to return to northbound I-135. Northbound I-135 is expected to reopen by Sunday afternoon.

KDOT asks drivers to allow extra travel time, follow detour signs, or find alternate routes to their destinations.
