Travis Hunter Jr. got emotional talking about his father during his speech after winning the Heisman Trophy in December, acknowledging Travis Hunter Sr. was unable to attend the ceremony.

But when the younger Hunter's name is called during the NFL Draft on April 24, he could be celebrating with his father by his side.

Travis Hunter Sr. was granted permission by the courts recently to travel to Green Bay for the NFL Draft. Hunter Sr., who lives in Boynton Beach where his son was raised, is scheduled to leave West Palm Beach the day before the draft and ordered to return Friday, the day following the draft, according to court documents.

Hunter Sr., 39, was sentenced to 90 days in late September 2024 stemming from a 2023 arrest on gun and drug charges. He was released from the Palm Beach County West Detention Center in Belle Glade nine days before the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York but was unable to attend. He was placed on a three-year period of probation and ordered to complete the first year under home confinement.

While in Green Bay, Hunter Sr. is restricted to the grounds of the hotel other than attending the draft, which will be held at Lambeau Field. He was required to submit a full travel itinerary and schedule to his community control officer.

Shirley Hunter, Travis Sr.'s mom, was in New York when her grandson won the Heisman . She is happy her son will be able to attend the draft.

"That made me proud because he can go up there," said Shirley who lives in Boynton Beach. "I'd rather him be up there to be with his son than me. That's his first son."

Shirley will attend a draft watch party being held in Boynton Beach, which will be attended by friends, family and members of the Boynton Beach Bulldogs youth football program. Hunter Jr. started playing for the Bulldogs when he was 5 years old and remained with the program until moving to Suwanee, Georgia, with his mom before starting high school.

Travis Hunter expected to be selected by the Cleveland Browns

The two-way star with the Colorado Buffaloes , who played receiver and cornerback, is expected to be selected in the first four picks of the draft, most believing he will be taken No. 2 by the Cleveland Browns. Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans.

Hunter spoke directly to his dad during his heartfelt speech at the Heisman ceremony . Hunter Sr. was watching from his mother's home in Boynton Beach.

"I want to say something to my father," Travis Jr. said at the time. "He's not here and wasn't able to make it but I know you're watching on TV. Dad, I love you. For all the stuff you went through man … Now look at your oldest son. I did it for you, man.

"All the times that you didn't get to see me, or the times you did come to see my games. From not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me. That means so much to me.

"I know you wanted to be here and you can't, but trust me, I got you. I'm bringing the trophy home. I love you."
