After seven months of Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch battling it out in the great quarterback competition, a decision has been made.

It's official. The Broncos have their quarterback.

Head coach Vance Joseph announced on Monday, August 21, that Trevor Siemian will be starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. The decision has been a long time coming, and after seven months of competition, Siemian came out on top.

The young quarterback, who was drafted as a seventh-round pick in 2015, has been in competition with former first-round pick Paxton Lynch since Joseph was named as head coach in January. Ever since then, the two have been split between first-team reps throughout OTAs, minicamp, and training camp.

Joseph said in the press conference, "After a long battle, we've decided on making Trevor Siemian our quarterback." He continued,

Decision making, ball placement was more consistent with Trevor. That's why he won the job."

The Broncos head coach said that Siemian being starter is permanent and that "he's our guy." This marks the second season in a row that Siemian has won the job -- he went up against Mark Sanchez last season.

While the news is devastating for Lynch, he will continue to be Siemian's backup. Joseph said that "Paxton can't lose his enthusiasm to keep getting better as a quarterback."

Lynch echoed his coach's statement, "I'm very happy with how I handled myself through this whole process and how I'm progressing as a player. I'm heading in the right direction. I'm going to keep working to be the best player I can be."

Siemian -- in two pre-season games -- completed 14 of 18 passes for 144 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions, while Lynch struggled with 15 of 22 passes for 81 yards, and zero touchdowns or interceptions.
