TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The Topeka Rescue Mission (TRM) reports one of its staff members was injured last week during a “tragic incident” outside of the mission. Kim Turley with the TRM said in a press release the incident occurred on Friday, April 4 outside of mission. She said the TRM is working with the Topeka Police Department (TPD) following the injury. “Our entire TRM team is devastated by this event,” said TRM CEO, La Manda Cunningham. “Each of our employees is precious to our team and our mission, so when one of us is injured in any way it has a significant and far-reaching impact. Due to this being a personnel issue coupled with our desire to respect our employee’s privacy we are unable to share much information at this time. We can share that our employee is in stable but critical condition. As we do each day, we will continue to lean heavily on our faith in God as we process all that has occurred, pray for all parties involved, and help our TRM family work through this situation.” Turley said the TRM is providing support to the injured employee, all impacted employees, family members and guests at the mission following this incident. The TRM is located in north Topeka at 401 Northwest Norris Street. “Each of our staff members is precious to us, not just as employees but also as loved members of God’s family,” Cunningham said. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff, and we will be working closely with authorities to understand this event while also praying for the suspect who was apprehended immediately.” 27 News has reached out to the TPD for more information on the incident which lead to the injured TRM staff member.
