President Donald Trump tried to humiliate Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office on Tuesday as he doubled down on his '51st state' plans.

The explosive meeting came as the relationship between the U.S. and its neighbor has been undermined by the president's talk of annexing Canada , and his imposition of massive tariffs .

Trump said the U.S.-Canada border was an 'artificially drawn line' and if they joined together it would be a 'wonderful marriage.' He added: 'But it takes two to tango, right?'

Carney appeared to squirm in his seat and fired back that Canada was 'not for sale.'

Canada's Liberal Party won an April 28 election on the back of promises to stand up to Trump.

There was a strikingly cordial tone between Trump and Carney, even during polite but stark disagreements over Trump’s drive to make Canada the 51st U.S. State.

Trump said that he ‘still’ believes in the idea, but then added: ‘But it takes two to tango, right?’

‘We’re not going to be discussing that unless somebody wants to discuss it,’ he said before meeting with the Canadian PM, who campaigned in opposition to the idea.

Trump said it would be a ‘wonderful marriage,’ but Carney told the former developer flatly: ‘There are some places that are never for sale,’ mentioning the Whtie House and Buckingham Palace.

In another rhetorical concession, Trump said Canada ‘is stepping up the military participation.’

But he refused to call the idea dead. ‘I say “never say never,”’ Trump said.

President Donald Trump tore into New York AG Letitia James as a ‘crook’ when asked about the Justice Department considering a criminal referral against his nemesis.

James, who won a $454 million judgement against Trump in a New York fraud case, is the subject of a criminal referral by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte claiming she improperly claimed a Virginia property as her primary residence. He asked the DOJ to investigate her for alleged mortgage fraud.

‘I don’t want to get involved in something that Pamela is involved with,’ Trump said when asked about it, referencing AG Pam Bondi, who set up a working group to root out ‘weaponization’ in her agency.

Then he tore into James. ‘She’s a horrible, horrible human being, and I think she’s a total crook. There’s no question about that, but that’s just my opinion. Pam is going to have to do what she wants,’ Trump said, maintaining an arm’s length distance from Bondi, who was across the room during a White House event.

‘She’s a very bad person,’ Trump said of James, whose lawyer Abbe Lowell called the referral ‘improper political retribution.’

President Donald Trump said the upcoming World Cup will attract millions of fans including his son Barron.

‘These events will attract millions of passionate fans around the world, including my son,’ he said at a meeting with FIFA at the White House.

‘I have a son that loves soccer, Barron. Nobody's ever heard of Barron. Have you ever heard of Barron? He's a good soccer player too. He's a little tall for soccer, but that's okay.’

Barron, who now tops 6’7’, played soccer in high school. When he was a teen living at the White House, mom Melania Trump set up a soccer goal net in the first lady’s Rose Garden so she could keep an eye on him when she worked in the East Wing.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico will host the 2026 World Cup.

Trump joked about what to call the games, noting the difference in monikers used in the United States and the rest of the world.

‘We can't wait to welcome soccer fans from all over the globe. I don't know if I'm supposed to say soccer or football, because every time I say soccer, Barron and Eric say you're really saying it wrong. It's supposed to be football, but we know it more as soccer,’ he noted.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he directly asked President Donald Trump to stop suggesting Canada become the 51st state.

‘The president, he understands that we're having a negotiation between sovereign nations and that we will only pursue and accept a deal that's in the best interest of Canada,’ he told reporters at the Canadian Embassy after his Oval Office meeting with Trump.

Asked for the president's repsonse to his request, Carney replied: 'The President is his own person.'

In his meeting Carney, Trump said that he ‘still’ believes in bringing Canada into the fold, but then added: ‘But it takes two to tango, right?’

Carney respodned: ‘There are some places that are never for sale,’ mentioning the Whtie House and Buckingham Palace.

The PM campaigned on his ability to stand up with Trump and his opposition to his country joining the 50 states.

Carney were more blunt after the meeting, when, in French, he told reporters he said to Trump: ‘It was not useful to repeat it.’

The 60-year-old Liberal Party leader has said that things cannot be the same with the United States under Trump, and warned not to expect any immediate agreements from the meeting at the White House.

Trump has sparked a major trade war with Canada, which counts the United States as its main ally and trading partner, while repeatedly making calls for Canada to become the 51st US state.

Trump is set to welcome Carney at 11:30am, followed by lunch and then a meeting in the Oval Office.
