A sixth round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, previously scheduled for Sunday, was canceled amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

President Donald Trump denied U.S. involvement in Israel's recent attacks on Iran after talks aimed at reining in Tehran's nuclear program, previously scheduled for Sunday, were called off.

"The U.S. had nothing to do with the attack on Iran, tonight. If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the U.S. Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before," Trump posted on Truth Social. "However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!"

Israel is threatening to use even greater force after unleashing air strikes across Iran for three straight days. The escalation started with a major surprise attack that targeted Tehran's nuclear program and killed several top Iranian generals.

Some Iranian missiles have dodged Israeli air defenses and struck buildings deep in the country, causing civilian casualties. Iran's top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, said overnight that they will halt their responses if Israel also stops its attacks.

Araghchi said Saturday that nuclear talks were “unjustifiable” after Israeli strikes, which he said were the “result of the direct support by Washington.” In response to Trump's denial, Araghchi said, “We do not believe this claim. We have evidence that suggests otherwise."

A U.S. official who spoke with The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity said U.S. ground-based air defense systems in the region were helping to shoot down Iran's retaliatory missiles.

In another post Saturday, Trump said he discussed the situation in the Middle East during a lengthy phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has condemned Israel's military operation against Iran.

"He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war should also end," Trump said, referencing Russia's war in Ukraine.

Trump said they spent "much less time" talking about the Russia-Ukraine war, "but that will be for next week."

Trump said Putin also "very nicely" wished him a happy birthday.
