There were big championship performances from Nashville area athletes during last week’s TSSAA Spring Fling . Now you get to choose the best, picking between TSSAA baseball, soccer, tennis and track and field. Vote for the Ponce Law Nashville area boys athlete of the week. The poll will close Thursday at noon. Miller Mabury, BGA: Mabury won the DII-A long jump with a mark of 23-10.5, helping BGA win its first boys track and field state title. Cade Abernathy, Clarksville: Abernathy’s walk-off single gave Clarksville a 7-6 win in 10 innings in the Class 4A state semifinals against Oak Ridge. Gavin Johnson, Centennial: Johnson won the Class AAA 400 meter title with a time of 47.89. William Rhodes, Columbia Academy: Rhodes scattered six hits and struck out seven in Columbia Academy’s 2-0 win over Clarksville Academy for its second straight DII-A baseball state title. Eli Wharton, Davidson Academy: Wharton won the DII-A 1,600 meter title with a time of 4:20.55 and also won the 3,200 title with a time of 9:53.67. Koltt Bassham, Eagleville: Bassham’s two-out, walk-off single gave Eagleville a 6-5 win in the Class 1A baseball state championship for its fourth consecutive title. Damon Petty, FRA: Petty won the DII-A track and field 800 meter title with a time of 1:56.56. Pedro Ungarello, Grace Christian: Ungarello scored a goal and added an assist in Grace Christian’s 3-0 win over Webb School - Bell Buckle in the DII-A boys soccer state final. Landon Yurisic, Hendersonville: Yurisic scored the Commandos’ only goal in a 1-0 upset of nationally ranked Franklin in the Class AAA boys soccer quarterfinals. Elliott Parker, Hume-Fogg: Parker defeated defending Class AA singles champion Rich LaLance (1-6, 6-2, 6-3) to capture Hume-Fogg’s first individual boys or girls tennis title. Also, he and No. 1 doubles partner Samuel Craddock won the Class AA team state tournament’s final match, 8-4, to secure a 4-3 win over Science Hill, giving Hume-Fogg its first boys or girls team tennis title. Tristian Ramirez, Independence Academy: Ramirez scored the Lions’ only goal as they defeated STEM Prep 1-0 for the TSSAA soccer Class A state championship. It’s the school’s first TSSAA title in any sport. Jack Dugan, Lipscomb Academy: Dugan, a Tennessee commitment, went 2-for-6 with four RBIs and a home run combined in two wins over CPA that clinched Lipscomb the program’s first DII-AA baseball state championship since 2011. Hayes Weller, MBA: Weller made two saves during MBA’s shootout with McCallie in the DII-AA state final, including one that set up MBA’s winner for a 3-2 victory. Wyatt Boling, MLK Jr.: Boling won the Class AA 1,600 title with a time of 4:25.11. John Wilkes, Merrol Hyde: Wilkes defeated Fairview’s Carter Terry, 7-5, 6-4, for the Class A tennis singles state title. Jack Wallace, MBA: Wallace won the DII-AA 800 title with a state-best time of 1:53.00, and won the 3,200 with a time of 9:13.31. Dominic Taylor, Riverdale: Taylor had the state’s best 100 time, winning the Class AAA state title with a time of 10.35. He also won the 200 with a time of 21.29. Ryan Hendon, Station Camp: Hendon scored two goals in the final as Station Camp beat South-Doyle 3-1 for the Class AA boys soccer state title. Korean Ross, Whites Creek: Ross won the 800 meter title in Class A with a time of 2:00.87. Justin Smith, White House Heritage: The third baseman’s walk-off grand slam in the Class 2A baseball state tournament’s opening round gave the Patriots a 10-7 win over Huntingdon. Ultimately, the win helped the Patriots come within a game of the Class 2A state final. Cadence Dolgin, Wilson Central: Dolgin won the Class AAA pole vault title with a mark of 15-0.
