KERNELS NUGGETS
Cedar Rapids 3, Peoria 4
Box Score

Down 4-1 going to the bottom of the eighth, the Kernels scored one run in the eight and one run in the ninth, but in the end, they fell just short on the scoreboard.

Hard-throwing Jose Olivares started. He gave up one run on two hits in four innings. He had four walks and six strikeouts . Kade Bragg gave up one run on three hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out three batters. Paulshawn Pasqualotto got the next two innings. He gave up two runs on two hits and a walk. He also had three strikeouts. Things were tough at the start for the Kernels. In the bottom of the first, Kyle DeBarge was called out on strikes. He disagreed with that umpire decision. In the top of the second, Olivares got a pop up to third base. Soon after, DeBarge was ejected by the first base umpire. Losing such an important bat that early in the game obviously doesn’t help the team.

In the bottom of the eighth, Poncho Ruiz led off with a single and went to third on a Misael Urbina double. Ruiz scored on a ground out by Kaelen Culpepper .

The bottom of the ninth began just like the second, with De Andrade being hit by a pitch. Ferrer bunted him to second. Lugo hit his second double to drive in a run and cut the deficit to 4-3.

Both the eighth and ninth innings ended with a Kernels runner on second. In the game, the Kernels were just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left five runners on base.

Lugo led the way. He went 2-for-4 with a double. He also stole his first base in Cedar Rapids.
