(BUTLER, Mo.) Two children were killed following a home explosion in Butler, Missouri on Saturday.

According to the Bates County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was received around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday in reference to an explosion and a house fire.

First responders arrived to find a fully engulfed home, where five people were reported to be living.

Three of the five occupants were able to make it out of the house, however two children, both two years old, were not able to be immediately rescued.

Fire units requested additional assistance from other agencies, but rescue efforts were unsuccessful die to the heavy fire in the house.

Both children were eventually pronounced deceased by the Bates County Coroner.

The three people that were able to make it out were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The fire is being investigated by the Bates County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.
