United Airlines prevented two young female passengers from boarding because they were wearing leggings. The incident drew outrage on social media.
According to United Airlines' internal policy, individuals who are family or associates of United employees ("pass travelers") are indirect or direct representatives of the company and they must follow a dress code. On Sunday, two young female passengers, who were pass travelers, were traveling from Denver to Minnesota. However, the two young girls were barred from the flight. Why, you may ask? Because they were wearing leggings and did not follow dress code policies. The two girls were then instructed to "cover up" before they were allowed to board. Shannon Watts, who witnessed the incident, went to Twitter to report her frustrations. https://twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/845992819894321153 https://twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/845993122186211332 https://twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/845994369278627844 https://twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/845999889020604417
United Airlines said they wanted to make it clear that general passengers can wear leggings since they do not need to abide by the dress code policies of the airline company. United's Twitter account spent the day walking a public relations tightrope, trying to explain to critics the company dress code policies.
