Carolina Hurricanes 2, Washington Capitals 1 (OT)
Game 1 of what should be a tight series between the Hurricanes and Capitals ended in overtime on Tuesday. The two teams got off to a bit of a slow start, going scoreless through the first period. Aliaksei Protas got things going early in the second period, finding the back of the net on the break to open up scoring and give Washington the lead. Alex Ovechkin also set a physical tone with a big hit on Carolina's Seth Jarvis. After a slow first two periods for the Hurricanes, they finally got on the board and tied things up halfway through the third period as Logan Stankoven found the back of the net. Neither team managed to end the game in regulation, but there was plenty of action on the ice. The Hurricanes needed just three minutes of overtime before ending the game with a deep shot from Jaccob Slavin.
