In regards to the conversation going on with Aspen City Council about the creation of a city-run child care facility, I understand the need to consider where the 24 employees needed for this child care facility are going to live. Perhaps they already live in Aspen, but more than likely they live downvalley. Although I don’t know the zoning of this Burlingame facility, maybe it would make sense to create a hybrid space: it could both house the workers and a childcare facility. I know many people that work in Aspen cannot afford child care or housing and they are the people that keep the town running. It would be a blessing for these people to be able to put their children in the Burlingame center while they live and work in Aspen. I bet there’d be a long waiting list.
