Multiple cases of fraudulent ski lift tickets sold on Craigslist have been reported to the Vail Police Department. Now, they’re warning the public.

Last Wednesday, the town of Vail released a statement detailing a rash of scams targeting skiers visiting the area. “In one case, approximately $2,000 worth of lift tickets was purchased by the suspect direct from Vail Resorts. They were then resold to an individual via Craigslist,” said the release. https://twitter.com/VailPolice/status/821807469190123530 The suspect buys authentic tickets directly from Vail Resorts, sells them to unsuspecting buyers via Craigslist, and then reports the credit card used to buy the tickets as stolen. The scam explicitly targets skiers from out of town. When victims attempt to redeem the tickets upon arrival, they don’t exist or are flagged as fraudulent. The Vail Police Department, along with the resorts, would like to remind everyone that tickets cannot be resold or gifted. The best way to avoid being scammed is to purchase tickets through trusted sources, like vail.com. Safe skiing!
