Valley Pride is promising a week of celebration, solidarity, and connection for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies during its third annual festival. Events are planned for June 23-28 in the Annapolis Valley. The group, formed in 2023, said in a new release the festival’s theme, Community is Resistance, underscores the power of collective support in fostering resilience and joy in challenging times. In a year marked by rising polarization and threats to marginalized communities, the news release said Valley Pride is offering a safe and vibrant space for people to unite, celebrate diversity, and form meaningful bonds. “Valley Pride is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder that no one should have to carry the weight of the world alone,” said Ashley Cyr, one of the festival’s founders. “We invite everyone – queer folks and allies alike – to join us in weaving a stronger, more inclusive community.” • Educational panels: Insights into pressing issues facing the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. • Craft night: Unleash your creativity in a relaxed, welcoming setting. • Silent reading club: A serene moment of connection for book lovers. • Intro to burlesque: A chance for all bodies to embrace the joy of movement. • Pick-up soccer: Fun, informal games for all skill levels. • Variety show: Showcasing the region’s finest queer talent. • Late-night dance party: Dance the night away in a celebratory atmosphere. • Come Together 3.0: Downtown Kentville Takeover: A celebration in downtown Kentville. • Queer prom: An inclusive event for reliving – or reimagining – prom memories.
