Eighteen Velocity Urgent Care centers in Virginia will be rebranded as Sentara Urgent Care next week.

The name change, which goes into effect Monday, has been in the works since Sentara assumed full ownership of Velocity in December 2023.

“This branding process brings us full circle back to Sentara,” Kurt Hofelich, vice president of ambulatory services for Sentara Health, said in a news release. “We’re glad to have Sentara Urgent Care back in the family.”

Sentara partnered with Velocity Urgent Care with its five Hampton Roads urgent care centers in 2017, with the idea that Velocity would grow the chain. There are now 18 centers across the state, with a 19th soon opening in Elizabeth City.

In Hampton Roads, there are centers in Newport News, Carrollton, Norfolk, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Gloucester.

More than 200 Velocity staff members are now employees of Sentara Health, the news release said.

“Sentara Urgent Care will provide our patients with a seamless connection to Sentara’s Epic EMR,” said Barbara Smith, vice president of operations for Sentara Urgent Care. “Being part of Sentara promotes patient safety and continuity of care. Sentara is one of the most respected names in health care and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

After the transition, VelocityUC.com will redirect to Sentara.com/urgentcare .
