Answering our, er, burning question—what if those mittens ... were socks?
You can get Bernie on a sweatshirt, Bernie on a bobblehead, Bernie on your body—and now, you can feel a little closer to the internet's favorite Chairman by wearing his mittens ... on your feet. Veteran Vermont sock manufacturer Darn Tough Vermont has teamed up with Jen Ellis, the Vermont teacher who made Bernie's now-famous mittens (from repurposed wool sweaters and recycled plastic bottle fleece, no less!), to make a merino wool sock with that same, cozy pattern.
Ellis broke the news on Wednesday, tweeting that "100% of the proceeds go to the Vermont Foodbank!"
So excited to announce my new collaboration! I'm partnering with Darn Tough Socks to produce a sock inspired by Bernie's mittens!! 100% of the proceeds go to the Vermont Foodbank! I've seen a sneak peek of the design and it's AMAZING! Stay tuned! @DarnTough @VermontFoodbank

Elsewhere, Ellis added, "I adore Darn Tough and I’m thrilled to partner with such an amazing and generous Vermont-based company. I want everyone to have a cozy, mitten-inspired sock, and now you really can. I hope they bring everybody joy!”
Darn Tough Vermont retweeted her announcement with their own warm addendum: "Asked if we could help her mission to support the community. Absolutely."
Don’t want to flex too hard, but we knew Jen was a teacher because she taught some of our kids. Kind soul. Asked us if we could help her mission to support the community. Absolutely. And her kindness can be rewarded. But that’s between she and us. https://t.co/auQDgyejel

Ric Cabot, founder and CEO of Darn Tough Vermont, added, "This sock is not political. This is about Vermont, community and neighbors. It’s about Jen being a second-grade teacher and a mother who aims to do good for all. When Jen reached out to us, we immediately saw this as an opportunity to continue our support for the Vermont Foodbank, and we knew we had to do it."
Merch revolving around the Bernie chair meme has already raised 1.8 million for charity, and these socks look to be next. Memes for the common good? We can get behind that.
What do you think? Would you wear the Bernie-inspired socks? Tell us in the comments.
