CHESAPEAKE — A Virginia Beach man lost control of a vehicle Friday morning during a police pursuit and crashed through a building, state police said in a news release. Around 8:45 a.m., a Virginia State Trooper tried to make a traffic stop on a red Acura TL for speeding on Interstate 464, Sgt. Michelle Anaya said in a news release. After the vehicle did not pull over, a pursuit was initiated, Anaya said. During the pursuit, state police discovered the registration on the car was assigned to another vehicle. The car — driven by Austin Jarrett Edwards, 21, police say — exited 464 onto Freeman Avenue, then came upon a dead end road. Edwards lost control of the Acura due to ice of the roadway, police said, and crashed the car into a nearby building and through its exterior wall. Edwards suffered minor injuries, police said, and he was taken to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center to be assessed before going to the city jail. Two workers in the building said they suffered minor injuries and were treated and released. Edwards, of Alfriends Trail in Virginia Beach, is facing multiple vehicle charges, including reckless driving and felony elude.
