VIRGINIA BEACH — After opening an investigation of a man found dead in the Avalon Terrace neighborhood , police on Thursday labeled the shooting domestic in nature and charged a woman with first-degree murder.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Rodney Lane Wednesday morning and found 90-year-old Woodard McClure of Virginia Beach inside a residence dead by an apparent gunshot wound, according to a Virginia Beach Police Department statement.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated the violence was domestic.

After a “comprehensive investigation,” officers said 43-year-old Jennifer Mulligan of Virginia Beach, a resident of the same home, was charged with first-degree murder. She was detained.
