LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — I have 10 thoughts on next week's snow. 1.) We’ll have a classic winter storm to track next week for Feb. 19 and Feb. 20. The big, storms/lows coming up from the south can be identified more easily. 2.) It’s a classic 1-2 punch: cold and dry, then a big low coming up from the South. 3.) Locations: Carolinas, Virginia, PA, and later into New England. Classic Nor’easter! Precip gets heavier along the way. 4.) We would start with snow. Temperatures easily look cold enough to support snow from cloud to ground in Virginia. 5.) Snow begins Wednesday. Whether it’s a.m. or p.m., hours will be determined in a day or two. It’s highly probable that it’s snowing Wednesday night and into Thursday. 6.) 12 to 18 hours of precip once it begins. 7.) As the snow is ending, a changeover to a wintry mix can occur. 8.) Compared to our most recent winter storm, we’re COLDER. More snow and less ice. 9.) While way too soon to speculate on where the heaviest snow falls, a SW to NE swath of 10”+ totals are probable. Again, too soon to speculate on whether it's our region or elsewhere, but we are getting a winter storm. 10.) Wednesday and Thursday would warrant winter storm watches and warnings. Winter storm school gets canceled and airports shut down.
