As our region navigates the dynamic landscape of economic development, it becomes increasingly crucial to cultivate a deep understanding of our strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities. With this imperative in mind, we are proud to present the Rising Tide series — a platform dedicated to raising awareness and fostering dialogue on the factors influencing our regional economy.

In our pursuit of economic prosperity, it is essential not only to capitalize on our strengths, but also to confront our weaknesses with honesty and resilience. Recognizing opportunities and adeptly responding to challenges are integral to driving sustainable growth.

The fourth event in the Rising Tide series will focus on the “public catalysts”: public education, public safety and public transportation. These pillars serve as cornerstones that profoundly impact the economic vibrancy and overall well-being of our region.

Undoubtedly, we have faced significant challenges in each of these areas. Yet, it is important to acknowledge that challenges do not define us; rather, they present opportunities for growth and innovation.

The distinguished speakers for this event will acknowledge the hurdles they have encountered while also highlighting the progress made and the measures put in place to facilitate continuous improvement. By making changes and driving positive transformation, these leaders are helping to reshape our region’s narrative and drive greater prosperity. They are Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew, Hampton City Schools Superintendent Raymond Haynes and Hampton Roads Transit Chief Communications Officer Alexis Majied.

This event will provide an interactive platform for audience participation, encouraging lively discussions and the exchange of ideas. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the speakers, ask questions and share insights, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at charting a collective course toward economic advancement.

This event will take place at 7:30 a.m. April 26 at the Holiday Inn at 980 Omni Blvd. in Newport News. For more information, visit bit.ly/2024-0426-Rising-Tide or contact Allie Carson at or 757-325-8157.
