The African American History Museum is allowing guests a chance to visit the museum without having to reserve tickets every Wednesday in April.
The African American History Museum opened up at the end of September in 2016 and since then has been amazingly successful. It’s so successful in fact that it is almost impossible to get in without having to reserve tickets ahead of time. Guests can reserve tickets the same day online for free, but the tickets are first-come-first-serve and often sell out fast. The tickets are available starting at 6:30 a.m. and you will likely have to set your alarm and be ready right at 6:30 a.m. to get tickets during popular days.
Now “Walk Up Wednesday” is letting visitors show up to the museum without having to reserve tickets throughout the month of April. The African American History Museum will still be first come first serve, so wake up early and head on over. The museum’s website states, “Visitors may find long lines if the building is at or nearing capacity. Individuals with timed entry passes to visit the museum on Wednesdays in April will be given priority entrance. Individuals without timed entry passes will be allowed to enter the building as capacity allows.”

This month-long program is serving as a pilot to test a no-pass entry program. The museum’s founding director, Lonnie G. Bunch III, stated that the goal of this pilot program is to provide greater access to the public and learn how to manage visitor demand while also maintaining security.
This is a great opportunity to see why over 2.5 million people have visited the museum since it has opened. Take advantage of this program on April 4, 11, 18 or 25. The African American History Museum packs enough exhibits and displays for guests to easily spend hours meandering around.
