TOPEKA — The high school sports season has concluded, and now is the time to hand out the individual awards. The Topeka area had some of the best boys athletes in the state this year. They made an impact on the local and state levels, with many hoisting state titles.

Easton Broxterman, Washburn Rural



The senior will go down in history as one of the best wrestlers in Washburn Rural history. He won his third straight individual state championship this winter. He claimed the 144-pound division title via a technical fall as his dominance reigned supreme in the final tournament of the year. He was called "the best in the history of Kansas" by his head coach this season. Broxterman will wrestle next year at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Jack Donovan, Rossville



Rossville’s stand-out three-sport athlete put together an impressive junior year season. He broke the school record for the lowest golf round in history. He’s also snapped the all-time 3-point shooting record this season by making over 118. Donovan was named first-team all-Big East League for basketball, while he also earned all-Big East honorable mention for football by playing wide receiver.

Bryer Finley, Seaman



The senior was one of the most dynamic athletes in the city and the United Kansas Conference this year. Finley earned offensive player of the year award for the UKC as he helped the football team claim the conference title for the first time since 2006. He caught 82 passes for 1,556 yards and 21 touchdowns in his final season. During basketball season, Finley earned second-team all-conference honors as one of the top scoring threats for the Vikings. Lastly, Finley was also named to the UKC’s honorable mention list for baseball.

Dayne Johnson, Silver Lake



The junior was a key piece to the Eagles’s deep postseason runs in three sports this year. Johnson was one of the top wide receiver targets for the football team. He earned first-team all-Big East League. Johnson was the main man for the basketball team as he helped Silver Lake reach the Class 3A State Semifinals. In baseball, Johnson played the infield for a team that reached the state tournament, too.

Tres Lassiter, Topeka High



The junior was one of the top tennis players in Shawnee County this season. Lassiter's biggest event saw him win the city title this season in the singles division. Lassiter also qualified for the state tournament as he reached day two of the competition.

Adrian Lehman, Topeka West



It was a banner year for the senior. He broke the Topeka West school record in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs this spring. The previous records were set in 1975 and Lehman smashed them. He reached times of 4:14 in the 1600 and 9:16 in the 3200-meter run. At the state championship, Lehman took fourth in the 1600 and fifth in the 3200. He also placed seventh overall in the Class 5A State Championship in cross country. He will be running collegiately at Washburn next year.

Kade Mitchell, Hayden



Mitchell was one of the busiest athletes for the Wildcats this season. The three-sport athlete was key for the football, basketball and baseball teams this season. He scored 26 total touchdowns last year as he rushed for 808 yards. He also secured three interceptions on the defensive end. The guard was a key player for the basketball team that reached the regional championship game. In baseball, Mitchell was named first-team all-Centennial League along with second-team all-Class 4A for his work in the outfield.

Jase Pavlik, Cair Paravel



The senior is signed to play football at Baker next fall. Pavlik was a three-sport athlete leading the way for the Lions this year. He was the starting quarterback during Cair Paravel’s first-ever season in 11-man football. He followed with a strong basketball campaign, taking home second-team all-Flint Hills League honors. Pavlik ended his year by helping the golf team qualify for the state tournament where Cair Paravel earned fourth in Class 2A.

Deacon Pomeroy, Shawnee Heights



The senior was a crucial component for Shawnee Heights' baseball and basketball postseason runs this season. The Oklahoma State baseball signee led the Thunderbirds to the Class 5A State Tournament this year. He was named first-team all-Class 5A and first-team all-United Kansas Conference for his play at the catcher position. Pomeroy was also named the UKC Player of the Year. In basketball, he helped the Thunderbirds reach the Class 5A State Tournament after a strong season playing forward. Pomeroy also earned first team all-conference honors in basketball.

Jacorey Robinson, Highland Park



The rim-rocking, high flying Jacorey Robinson finished his career with the Scots this season. The Austin Peay basketball signee led the Scots to the Class 5A State Championship game. He was named to the Class 5A all-state team along with first team all-Meadowlark Conference. Robinson scored 20.5 points while shooting 74% from two-point range. The 6-foot-5 guard also grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 6 assists this season.
