The City of Denver wants YOUR opinion and feedback about a potential bid to host the Winter Olympics in 2026 or 2030.
We're knee-deep in Team USA spirit right now, so of course we want the Winter Olympics to come to our Colorado soil, right? What could be better than our great state landing in the international spotlight? But what about a few years down the road, when I-70 is in the midst of a gigantic widening project and traffic is a nightmare? What will we think then? On the flipside, here's another thought: Will we eventually need to widen I-70 anyway, and could becoming an Olympics host city be the answer to dealing with all these congestion and growth issues we're going to be facing in the not-too-distant future, anyway?
A Denver exploratory panel has been tasked with answering all of these questions (and more!) and coming to a very important decision: whether or not Colorado should submit a bid to the International Olympic Committee by March 31.
And here's the clincher: The panel wants our input!
From an online survey to an upcoming online community meeting on February 24, the Sharing the Gold engagement plan is all about spurring "statewide discussion about whether hosting an Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games would be good for Denver and the entire state," the City of Denver's website states.
Questions asked on the survey include whether or not you would support the hosting bid if the committee can host the Games without impacting tax payers and whether you believe hosting the Games would have a longterm positive impact on our community.
Make sure to participate in the survey so your voice can be heard!
What do you think? Should Colorado submit a bid to host the Winter Olympics? We'd love to get a discussion started in the comments below!
