Warby Parker is giving away free eclipse glasses at their D.C.-area eyewear stores!
The eclipse is upon us. On the afternoon on August 21, Washington, D.C., will experience a partial solar eclipse. D.C. residents will get to see the moon cover 75 percent of the sun, an astronomical event that won't happen again in the United States until 2024 and 2045. According to NASA's website:When the moon blocks out the sun during a total eclipse, those regions of Earth that are in the direct path of totality become dark as night for almost three minutes,” said Steve Clarke, director of the Heliophysics Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. “This will be one of the best-observed eclipses to date, and we plan to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn as much as we can about the sun and its effects on Earth.”Scientists are warning people not to look at the eclipse with the naked eye. Just like it is dangerous to stare directly at the sun, it is also incredibly dangerous to stare at an eclipse without wearing the proper safety glasses. To make sure Washingtonians can safely enjoy the eclipse, Warby Parker is giving away eclipse glasses at their eyewear stores.
Though the glasses look like something you'd get to watch a 3D movie, these are specially designed to protect your eyes from the eclipse. Warby Parker will be giving away glasses that are manufactured by American Paper Optics, which is just one of five companies that produce NASA-approved eclipse glasses.
