COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Thick cloud cover and cooler temperatures will linger across the Midlands today, with warmer temperatures returning later this week. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! From yesterday’s First Alert Weather Day , the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 Tornado around Lake Murray and Chapin. This tornado began around the Timberlake community, moving northeastward towards Old Lexington and Wessinger Roads. At its peak strength, it was estimated to have winds around 90 MPH. Thankfully, today begins calm as the rest of yesterday’s storm system clears out. As the upper-level energy with this disturbance pivots offshore, a stray shower or two can’t be ruled out in the Eastern Midlands. Otherwise, cloud cover will slowly clear throughout the day. We’ll be cooler thanks to the frontal passage, with high temperatures only in the mid-60s. Later this week, spring-like air surges back into South Carolina! Tuesday, we’re working with a lot more sunshine, which will help us warm up quickly. Highs will make it back into the low and mid-70s. Wednesday, we’re near 80 degrees! We’ll track our next cold front Thursday, bringing with it a chance of scattered showers for the Midlands. St. Patrick’s Day: Mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain in the Eastern Midlands before lunchtime. Skies clearing to sunshine later today. Highs in the mid-60s. Tonight: Clear skies.
