With temperatures plunging, the city of Alexandria opened a warming station at the Bolton Avenue Community Center for "locals in need," reads a news release.

The station opened at 6 p.m. Wednesday and remain open until Friday, "coinciding with the expected increase in temperatures," it reads.

The center, at 315 Bolton Ave., cannot accommodate people with special medical needs or pets. People should be able to care for themselves and be ambulatory, it reads.

The city "is coordinating with other agencies to monitor additional needs," it reads.

This is the third time the city has opened a warming station in the past few months as cold, snow and ice hit the area. One hypothermia death, a 65-year-old homeless man, was confirmed last month.
