The Wichita area was expecting record high temperatures for Tuesday along with gusty winds and an extreme fire danger, then the weather will make a dramatic change going into Wednesday. A red flag warning and a high wind warning will be in effect Tuesday for south winds gusting to 45 miles an hour. With humidity as low as 17 percent, there is an extreme danger for grassland fires across Kansas. Wichita was expecting a high of 83 for Tuesday, which would tie a record from 1921. A storm system will move across the state Tuesday night into Wednesday, with much colder temperatures, strong north winds and snow, creating blizzard conditions for the central and northwest parts of the state. KFDI’s weather partners at KWCH, Storm Team 12 said any snow accumulation will mainly be on grassy areas, but low visibility and slick spots will make travel difficult for Tuesday night and early Wednesday. The Wichita area is expecting snow during the morning hours Wednesday but amounts are expected to be light.
