Kevin Durant not only brought home an NBA Championship title for people in Oakland, he also showed love to his D.C. area fans after Monday, June 12's game.
Kevin Durant led the way for the Warriors with 39 points. He won his first NBA championship and was also voted Finals MVP. Durant thanked, “everybody in Seat Pleasant, everybody in PG County, Maryland, everybody in D.C., (and) Virginia." Durant was born in D.C. and is a native of Seat Pleasant in Prince George’s County. "Y'all been riding with me and it feels good to see it come full circle,” he told Doris Burke from Oracle Arena. The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Durant has said that his decision not to play for the D.C. team had nothing to do with the fans or the city. “I’m trying to build a second part of my life as a man living in a different part of the country, just trying to do different things," he told The Washington Post earlier this year.“I don’t want to open up anything in the past, but I really just didn’t want to play at home,” Durant said. “It was nothing about the fans. Being at home, I was so happy with that part of my life — playing at home, being in front of friends, hanging with friends and family every day. That was a part of my life that has come and gone.I did everything I was supposed to do in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, I felt. Now it’s time to do something new."
Many Wizards fans did not agree with Durant's decision to play elsewhere. Durant took a bold step in anther direction. It appears that choosing Golden State has worked out pretty well for him.
The Warriors said in a statement that they've yet to receive the customary invitation to the White House for their big win, and they will make those decisions "when and if necessary."
