They didn’t win any events, yet the Washington-Liberty Generals placed a solid fourth in the girls team standings at the 6D North Region swimming and diving championships. The finish, and point total of 217, represented the high-school team’s best finish in years. W-L placed seventh, eighth and ninth the past three seasons. Leading the Generals individually this season in the region swim finals at Oakmont Rec Center was Clara McCarthy. The senior was second in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 100 free. She also swam on the fifth medley and 400 free relays. Another top swimmer for the Generals was Charlie Scogna, with a third in the 200 individual medley and a fourth in the 100 breaststroke. She also swam on the two fifth-place relays. “Charlie and Clara had a great meet,” Washington-Liberty coach Kristina Dorville told ARLnow. Freshman swimmer Amelia MacIvor was third in the 100 backstroke and 10th in the IM. Kate Taylor was seventh in the 500 free, Taylor Woodworth eighth in the back and Katie McDonald ninth in the IM. Sophia Boyko was ninth in the back and 14th in the 50 free, Sasha Taylor was 12th in the breast and 16th in the fly, and Willa McCarthy was 15th in the 200 free. The Generals’ 200-free relay was ninth, made up of Boyko, MacIvor, Kate Taylor and Shelby Ebert. In diving, Audrey Bowman was 19th for the Generals.
