Check out these ways to brighten up your daily intake of water and stay hydrated during these cold, frigid winter months.
Here in the DMV area, we have been experiencing record breaking wind chill and cold and blistering weather (even without the snow), along with random bursts of warmth. The cold temperatures and dramatic seasonal changes aren't good for anyone, but there is a simple way people in the DMV can combat this. Everyone knows that it's recommended we drink 64 ounces of water a day, but let’s get real for a second -- that’s kind of hard to pull off. Even so, water intake is extremely important in the winter, considering all the weather changes and how they affect our bodies. Here are a couple of ways to make boring tap water more enjoyable --enough to make the drinking a tad easier (and even healthier!) in the winter months.Fruit, Fruit, Fruit
Add your favorite sliced fruit to a jug of water and let it soak overnight. This helps the water’s taste and is an easy way to fill you up. You can use practically any fruit, and you can feel free to try out different combinations and options as well!Cheat with Soup
This is technically cheating, but brothy soups do contain a lot of moisture and nutrients. It is also one of the more filling options.Mash It Up
Smash some of your favorite berries and add them to the bottom of a glass. This really gets the juices of the fruit in the water. Infused waters boost your metabolism and also are great for people who love working out. It helps with muscle fatigue.Squeeze
Squeeze a lemon, lime, or orange to your water for a citrusy flavor. Citrusy fruits can help with sickness. So choose one of these options when you feel yourself coming down with something.
Keeping It HOT
A warm cup of water is extremely good for you. It is amazing for flushing out toxins, helping break down the food in your stomach, shedding excess weight, and improving circulation. This is also pretty easy to do in the mornings with a cup of hot tea.Splash
Add a splash of your favorite fruit juice to some ice cold water. Tart juices and ones with very little sugar work well. Also, you can make ice cubes out of the juice for something fun and not an overpowering way to add juice to your cup.Minty Fresh
Add sprigs of mint to your water, and let the flavor seep through. This benefits digestion, fatigue, and oral health, and the cooling, minty flavor will also make summer seem just around the corner.Sparkle
Just like adding your favorite fruit juice, you can add a little bit of sparkling water to make your normal glass a little less dull. Mineral waters can add benefits while carbonated ones can add a little fizz.
Call Me Cuke
Cucumbers are a staple when it comes to adding things to water. It works beautifully by adding a cool and refreshing taste, and you won’t even realize how much water you are actually consuming. It also helps with skin issues, delivering antioxidants, and lowering blood pressure.Spillin’ the …
Skip water entirely by using tea as a shortcut. You are getting water into your system, right? This can be warm water as stated above or just simply iced tea, which goes down easier and quicker. There are also millions of flavors to choose from so it will never be a boring tea tasting.Mix
Crystal Light is a great way to add a fruity and flavorful taste to a plain glass of water. There are also Starbucks refreshers and other packets that are meant for on-the-go water mixing.Do you have any tricks to make water fun? Leave them below in the comments!
