WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Snow is falling across all of Kansas, and it will continue to do so this morning before coming to a stop, from west to east, by midday. A gusty north wind is causing blowing/drifting snow, and reduced visibility at times, and travel is not recommended this morning.

The heaviest snowfall will be along and north of I-70 where 5-8″ of accumulation is likely. In between I-70 and highway 400 we are expecting between two and five inches of snowfall while areas farther south will see an inch or two of accumulation.

After a sunny but very cold Thursday with morning wind chills below zero, and highs in the 20s, a brief warm-up arrives on Friday as climb into the 30s and 40s.

Our next weather maker arrives as we start the weekend, and while this one will be relatively weak and short in duration, the risk of a wintry mix makes it a concern. While most of the state will see light snow, south central Kansas, including the Wichita area, is in the running for a mix of freezing drizzle, sleet, and light snow.

Today: Morning snow, then mostly cloudy; 2-4″ expected. Wind: N 15-25; gusty. High: 20.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds and very cold. Wind: N 5-15. Low: 2.

Tue: Low: 18. High: 24. Cloudy with a chance of snow.
