Art fair fun kicking off



If your walls are looking a bit empty, mark your calendar for the upcoming annual Kensington Metropark Art Fair, which returns May 24-26 along the beach at Kensington Metropark in Milford. More than 100 juried artists from across the country will celebrate the “Art, Naturally!” theme, combining the beautiful natural setting with fine handmade art. This year’s event takes advantage of the adjacent beach and has added the exciting building of a Ten Ton Sand Sculpture. In addition to watching the sand sculpture taking form, folks will be able to build their own sand sculpture with professional help on the beach. "We are so excited about adding the building of a 10-ton sand sculpture to activities,” says Mark Loeb, art fair director. Flower Day is May 18 at Eastern Market



It’s back! Clean out the wagon, grab your hat and head to downtown’s Eastern Market for the ever-popular annual Flower Day. This rite of spring will be held 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and offers a wonderful chance to stock up on annuals, perennials and just about anything else you might want to include in a home garden. The highly anticipated event is also the single largest day in terms of attendance and has been held since 1967 except for two years during the pandemic. Also scheduled are Flower Tuesday Markets from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. in Sheds 5 and 6 and flower vendors Shed 6 every day through Father’s Day for shoppers looking for fewer crowds. Herman Miller introduces limited run collection



Inspired by the close friendship between icons Alexander Girard, Charles and Ray Eames and New Mexico resident and acclaimed artist Georgia O’Keeffe, Herman Miller in partnership with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is introducing the New Mexico Collection by Herman Miller. It “pays homage to the trio’s creative camaraderie, which left an indelible mark on the modernist design movement in New Mexico during the 1950s,” according to a press release. The two-piece collection will launch May 20 and include the Eames Wire Chair Low Base, designed by the Eames Office for Herman Miller, and the Girard Snake Table, designed by Alexander Girard for Herman Miller. “While Girard experimented with his snake table design through sketches and prototypes in the 1950s, this is the first time the table has been produced by Herman Miller,” the release continues.
