WESLEY CHAPEL — What’s in a name? If you’re Wesley Chapel’s newest hospital, the answer is: a lot. Eight words and 55 letters, a mouthful destined to test the endurance of receptionists: Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health Wiregrass Ranch Hospital. The name was officially unveiled this month, and yes, it’s a big one. But those involved with what will be Wesley Chapel’s largest hospital would likely say it’s a big name for what will be a big deal. “What’s super exciting about what’s going on is I’ve lived here for over 40 years, and this is the most exciting health care project that I think this community is ever going to see,” said Joe Delatorre, the hospital’s president and chief executive officer of Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health. The hospital, located at 3000 Wiregrass Ranch Blvd., is expected to open in spring 2026 with 102 rooms, expandable to 300 beds at full buildout. The facility will boast nine operating rooms (including a hybrid OR that will provide advanced capabilities to allow for real-time imaging), high-tech robotic surgical suites and cutting-edge endoscopy rooms. Delatorre touted an “unbelievable” partnership with the Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute in Orlando as another benefit for local patients. “Residents of this community are really going to get the best care possible,” he said. “I’ve never been part of a project where the doctors are so engaged and actually having ownership and designing and collaborating on a new facility. That’s unbelievably important for Orlando Health, and I’m super excited to be part of it.” Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health physicians were involved in collaboratively designing the facility and selecting some of the state-of-the-art technologies and services that will be offered. Many of those who helped shape the design of the hospital were given a hard-hat tour this month, and were happy with what they saw. “If you look around, a lot of the stuff here is custom-designed for our doctors, for our surgeons, for our medical docs, our cardiologists, our pulmonary specialists,” said rheumatologist David Sikes. “All of our specialists will come here, as well as our primary care teams and our hospitalists. A lot of the hospital is designed specifically for us.” The hospital will be one of the centerpieces of the upcoming Legacy downtown project in Wiregrass Ranch, a major development blending health care, retail, housing and more. Plans for the hospital were first announced in 2022 by Orlando Health, and in August 2023, a partnership was formed with Florida Medical Clinical, a multispecialty physician group consisting of more than 350 providers of 40 medical specialties at 54 locations — including a large campus on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard a short distance from where the new hospital is being built. The collaboration led to the creation of Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health, and in 2024, the partnership was further cemented with the rebranding of Bayfront Health Medical Group under the Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health name.
