WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Western Kansas bore the worst of Wednesday’s snowstorm. Now, it faces the coldest temperatures in the state.

Storm Team 12 predicts that parts of western Kansas will feel like -20 degrees.

Parts of western Kansas saw over 7 inches of snowfall. By Wednesday afternoon, most roads were starting to clear. However, some areas, especially Sharron Springs and Wallace, still had packed snow.

On Wednesday morning, Kansas Highway Trooper Anthony Calderon saw the worst road conditions in the state’s southeast.

Calderon noted that, despite warnings to slow down, many people still drove too fast for the conditions.

“I’ve been out on a couple of welfare checks this morning,” Calderon explained. “Some of it is people are just driving too fast, so they’ll hit a patch of ice and then kind of slide off the roadway.”
