WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Officials with the Wichita Falls Police Department have released more information after they received reports that an individual at the North Texas State Hospital had a gun and a possible bomb.

At around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, several concerned residents of Wichita Falls reached out to the KFDX/KJTL newsroom, requesting information about a possible active shooter at the North Texas State Hospital on Kemp Boulevard.

In a press release sent Thursday afternoon, Sgt. Brett Keith, Public Information Officer with the Wichita Falls Police Department, said officers responded to the North Texas State Hospital for reports of a female with a gun and a possible bomb.

According to Sgt. Keith, officers quickly responded to the state hospital on Thursday afternoon. He said the responding officers investigated the report and determined the information was false.

“We want to assure the community that there is no threat to the state hospital or the surrounding area,” WFPD officials said in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Keith said a report was taken and the incident will be investigated. No further information has been released at this time.
