WHEELING, W.Va. — Police in Wheeling have made two arrests in connection with separate murder cases on Wheeling Island.

Police announced Thursday they have charged Dwayne Herring, 53, of Wheeling, with murder in the March 21 death of his wife at a residence on Wheeling Island.

The body of Kathleen Herring, 56, was found inside the residence. Police said there was evidence of a homicide and an autopsy backed up their findings.

Dwayne Herring was arrested last week, April 28, in Albemarle County, Virginia. He’s awaiting extradition back to West Virginia.

This morning, WPD announced details of two separate, unrelated investigations. Arrests have been made in both.

In a separate case, investigators have charged a Fairmont man in a July 2023 death.

Dennis Evans, 37, alleged attacked Christine Lynn King, 49, of Wheeling, on July 28, 2023. She died from injuries suffered in that attack three months later. A medical examinerd determined King died of blunt force trauma.

Evans was charged with murder on May 1. He’s current serving time in state prison in connection with a separate criminal case.
