For the first time since mid-April 2009, Georgia baseball is ranked No. 1 in one of the weekly major polls. The Bulldogs are actually in the top spot in two polls released Monday—Baseball America and Perfect Game. Georgia shot up to the top spot from No. 4 last week in the Baseball America poll and from No. 3 in Perfect Game. That came after previous No. 1 Texas was swept at Arkansas. Georgia is No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll after rising one spot. It moved up three spots to No. 6 in D1 Baseball. Georgia (39-11, 15-9 SEC) swept Missouri and won a midweek game against Kennesaw State last week. Georgia was last No. 1 in any of the major polls in 2009 when it was in the top spot in the USA Today and Collegiate Baseball polls. Georgia is on a six-game winning streak with two SEC series to go. The Bulldogs play at No. 20 Alabama in a three-game series starting Friday. “Guys will finish up finals on Tuesday,” coach Wes Johnson said on Georgia's postgame radio show Sunday. “We didn’t want to schedule a midweek anyways, but it gives them a chance to get in there, get their schoolwork done and then we can really start focusing on Alabama.”
