Poke for Days!
Poke is a delicious raw fish dish that is very popular in Hawaii. In fact, you can often find it in gas stations and higher-end restaurants in Hawaii! I've recently gotten more into poke myself, as it is tasty and healthy. Luckily, Denver has multiple options for poke bowls. Let's take a look at some of them.
Motomaki
Motomaki is an Asian-Hawaiin fast-casual spot from the guys behind Hapa Sushi, with locations in Boulder, Lakewood, and Denver. Their first location opened in Boulder in 2014. You can choose to get maki sushi in either bowl or roll form. If you're looking for fresh and affordable poke in the Denver area, you gotta check this place out. It's a win-win.
The Poke Story
The Poke Story started in 2017. Visit them in Centennial for food that will "energize and invigorate your tastebuds." In addition to their tasty poke bowls, they also offer fun treats such as taiyaki soft serve.
Ohana Island Kitchen
This spot was opened in 2016 by husband and wife, Regan and Louie Colburn, and actually started as a takeout window. Louie was born in Japan, and then grew up in Hawaii starting at age 4, and their food stays true to Louie's upbringing in Kaneohe. The menu is on the small side, which of course, includes poke. This also means that every item is prepared with attention to detail and quality.
PokeCity
This poke restaurant has locations in Glendale, Downtown, Arapahoe, Englewood, Aurora, and Federal Heights, with a goal to expand across the U.S. If you live in or around Denver, be sure to check out one of their locations!
Menya Colorado
Here you will find poke, ramen, and tapas. They have locations in Denver, Lakewood, and Colorado Springs. Menya was founded by local Colorado chef, JW Lee. His career began at an early age when he worked in many restaurants in Korea. Since moving to the states, he has opened over 20 restaurants! They use family recipes and focus on bringing people together through Asian cuisine.
One of the best things about poke is that it is simultaneously healthy and delicious. We love to see it! I've been really enjoying watching this trend take off lately. These are just a few spots in Denver where you can find poke. I doubt poke will be sold at gas stations in Colorado anytime soon, but we do have some great restaurants to choose from!
