PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- One of the biggest head coaching matchup of this year’s March Madness is taking place in the first round, as John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks face Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks. Two of the winningest active men’s college basketball head coaches will square off Thursday, March 20 at 7:10 p.m. Eastern on CBS in the first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Several streaming services will broadcast the game live and you can watch on Fubo (free trial), DirecTV Stream (free trial), Sling (promotional offers) and Paramount+ (free trial). Kansas (21-12, 11-9 Big 12) finished the regular season sixth in the Big 12 and lost in the quarterfinal of the Big 12 tournament. The Jayhawks, seeded seventh in the West Region, opened the season as the No. 1 team in the country. After holding that spot for a month, back-to-back losses to Creighton and Mizzou dropped them outside the Top 10 in the AP Poll. No. 10 seeded Arkansas (20-13, 8-10 SEC) finished the year ninth in the SEC before a second-round SEC tournament exit. The Razorbacks opened the season ranked No. 16 in the AP Poll, but had dropped out, and would not return, before the calendar flipped to 2025. Hunter Dickinson lead Kansas with 17.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, while Zeke Mayo (14.5 points per game) is the only other Jayhawk averaging double figures. Adou Thiero leads Arkansas at 15.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Boogie Fland is right behind him at 15.1 points per game. Arkansas has two other double digit scorers.
