About the pageant:

This year marks the 73rd Miss Universe Pageant. It is being held in Mexico for the first time since 2007. While the competition started with nearly 130 women from across the globe, only 30 will make it to the final rounds on Saturday.

Those 30 semifinalists have a swimsuit round before 18 contestants are eliminated. The final 12 do an evening gown walk, and five finalists will move on to the final hurdle – a question and answer round. The winner of this round becomes the next Miss USA.

The 2023 Miss Universe titleholder is Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua. The last time Miss USA won Miss Universe was in 2022. That year, R’Bonney Nola Gabriel took home the title. However, the United States has a strong contender this year with a winning streak. Michigan and the United States will be well represented as 22-year-old Alma Cooper of Okemos, Michigan, who holds the Miss USA and Miss Michigan titles, competes for a third title.

Cooper was the first active-duty Army officer to win the title of Miss USA, and the fourth Miss Michigan to win Miss USA. She is a graduate from the United States Military Academy, where she studied mathematical sciences. She also has a Master of Science in Statistics in data science from Stanford University.

Tune in to see who wins tonight, Nov. 16, at 8/7c on Telemundo .
