According to RentCafe research, an apartment search website and research blog, the top spot is East Lansing, Michigan. But could one in South Dakota rank?

Aida Radmanestean, marketing and communications specialist at RentCafe, said 235 college towns across 12 key metrics were analyzed in the study, saying Gen Zs heading off to college want more than simply a good university.

"Revealing which ones offer the best mix of affordability, energetic student life and quality education, going beyond prestige to focus on what today's students truly value," said Radmanestean.

Brookings, SD ranked ninth in college towns in the Midwest

South Dakota State University ranked among the top college towns in the Midwest, placing ninth. Founded in 1881, it is the South Dakota's largest university, and it is the second oldest one.

The school has around 200 majors and is located in Brookings, with a population of around 24,000.
