Combine your love for yummy food, the outdoors, and meeting cool people (Chef Egg!) at the Baltimore Farmers' Market and Bazaar this coming May.
Let’s get one thing straight – the Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar is AMAZING. If you're a foodie (or just play one on Instagram) and love fresh, colorful, fragrant, and healthy ingredients – you’re in luck! This Baltimore staple is now on your must-visit list. And not just once! Get out there every weekend and enjoy the sights, sounds, and TASTES of the yummiest place under the Jones Falls Expressway.
The market is already in full swing, having opened on April 8. It runs every Sunday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. until December 23. It does not have an address (that’s how hip it is) but it is conveniently located on the corner of Holliday and Saratoga streets, literally underneath the highway. You can’t miss it -- you'll see throngs of shoppers making the trek to this place. Reusable totes in hand, the seasoned market-goers are ready to stock up on the freshest finds around.
As if the market couldn't get any better, enter Chef Egg. With a name like that, I am instantly craving the breakfast staple in any form possible: poached, scrambled, sunny-side up, soft boiled ... I can go on, but I’m getting hungry. Back to Chef Egg, also known as Erik Berlin, who is a trained chef with a boatload of experience under his belt. But beyond just creating exquisite dishes, he is gifted with the skill of teaching others how to do so as well. “Give a man a fish…” – am I right?!
It's a treat to go to a nice restaurant and gobble up a fantastic three-course meal. But some, with the love for chopping and sautéing, will go the extra mile to actually create a gourmet meal for themselves. Be it a badge of personal honor, the look on your loved one’s face when they taste that first forkful, or the simple joy of creating a gorgeously plated dish. There’s something about cooking from scratch and calling it your own.
And here is where Chef Egg comes in. Are you completely unsure about the difference between a leek and a scallion? Are you looking to spice up your dinner menu? Curious about how in the world to make a meal that is healthy AND tasty? No matter the skill level, Chef Egg welcomes everyone to his interactive, fun, and informative cooking session on May 6.
The Family Cook-Off, taking place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. is the perfect way to kick-off your Sunday. Tickets are $10 and are required for any participant over the age of five. Don’t worry, if you’ve never been to the market, Chef Egg will provide a guided tour and familiarize you with the ins and outs of the place. Then, working with the freshest ingredients like eggs (of course!), bread, meat, and vegetables, you’ll learn the ways of the master. Maybe you can even figure out how he got the name! Hint: it has something to do with swimming.
So wake up early, grab a buddy, and make your way to the market. Sip on a steaming cup of Zeke’s coffee and enjoy the Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar. Let us know how it went and what yummy food you tried in the comments below! Happy cooking! P.S. -- we're officially jealous you get to meet a local celebrity.
