MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Who is Dr. Roderick Richmond? Following the termination of Dr. Marie Feagins as the superintendent of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) on Tuesday night, Richmond was named as the school district's interim superintendent. Richmond started as teacher in 1993, working his way up to Deputy Superintendent of Memphis City Schools. When Memphis City Schools merged with the county, Richmond became its Chief Academic Officer. In June, Feagins named him the district's Transformation Officer — for a division of the district dedicated to improving the performance of failing schools. On Tuesday night, tensions between the new interim superintendent and the crowd reached a fever pitch as he was pointed. "Be careful," he was overheard saying to the crowd. "Don't play with me." MSCS board member Michelle McKissack told FOX13 that she believes the board members who voted to fire Feagins have had Richmond in mind for superintendent since before they ever launched the plans to fire her.
