Any trip to Washington, D.C., wouldn't be complete without visiting the monuments that line the National Mall. While everyone heads over to the mall bright and early, consider heading over later at night to have the best time. Whether you are vacationing in the city or have lived here for years, here's why you should visit the monuments at night!
They are less crowded.

The National Mall can get very crowded, especially during the weekends. Between the families running around and multiple tours, you can feel very clustered. While some tours may still come by at nighttime, it is a lot less crowded. Not only do you get photos without crowds of people crashing the picture, but the mall is quieter and more peaceful. The tranquility really lets you soak in the history and beauty of the monuments without feeling rushed along.
The photos come out amazing.

Visiting the monuments at nighttime allows you to walk around in cooler temperatures. Especially during the summer, the temperature differences can be very helpful. The National Mall spans 1.9 miles from the Capitol steps to the Lincoln Memorial, so the cooler temps will make your trek a lot more enjoyable.
The park rangers are available late.

The park rangers are on duty from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day to answer any questions. While they may be super-busy during the day, at night you might be able to learn a lot more from them about the history of the monuments. The parks themselves are open 24 hours a day, so you can spend your time enjoying the views as long as you would like.
