WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The Wichita Falls Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded $10,000 dollars for some much-needed equipment, all to meet the needs of low-income neighborhoods across Texas.

Kathy Geil, Senior Program Coordinator for the City of Wichita Falls Recreation Department, said the new grant will benefit the 50-Plus Zone.

“We serve people of the community and the surrounding area anyone over the age of fifty is eligible to join for the low price of forty dollars per year and that includes virtually everything we do up here,” Geil said.

The funds will be replacing outdated exercise equipment for the Zone’s various fitness classes. When it came down to which municipalities get the funding, the choice was made based on organizations that advocate for the well-being and health of the community.

“They have ten grants that go towards providers that provide medical care and different types of things like rehab and things like that,” Geil said.

The 50-Plus Zone is one of just 20 organizations across Texas to get this grant. All it took to receive the funds was a simple application.
