WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - the Wichita Falls Public Library introduced two new additions - a mobile outreach van and a state-of-the-art book sorter. The van was purchased with funds donated by an anonymous nonprofit organization and will serve as a mobile library. The library plans to add shelves and a ramp to facilitate book transport, making it more convenient for staff and visitors. Once completed, the van will extend the library’s services beyond its physical location. “A few places that we love to get into a regular routine of visiting are senior centers or assisted living facilities, where residents might not have the opportunity to come to the library. It also gives us a chance to go to schools, community events, Art Walk and really increase awareness and the presence of the library,” program librarian Fox Baker said. Library officials hope the van will help them better connect with the community. In addition to the mobile outreach van, the library has installed a new automatic book sorter to replace its outdated system. “We just upgraded and replaced our aged-out sorting system, and we have a brand-new automatic sorter that will be bringing patrons’ books back into the system, ensuring they find their way automatically to the right bins and then onto the right shelves,” Baker said. Library staff encourage the community to keep an eye out for the new van as it makes its way across the city.
