WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita Police Department launched a new website that allows anyone to track their drone usage citywide.

It’s called the Interactive Drone Transparency Dashboard .

WPD said the site’s purpose is to enhance public safety and demonstrate the department’s commitment to operational transparency.

“The launch of the drone transparency dashboard underscores our department’s dedication to building public confidence through openness and accountability,” Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan said. “By providing the community with clear visibility into our drone usage, we’re reinforcing our mission to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Wichita residents.”

Anyone can access the site to view a map of the last 25 flights taken by WPD drones, along with details about the flight data, including the reasons for each flight.

The department said they started using drones in July 2024 and since have purchased 10 to use during crime investigations and pursuits.

WPD said drones are key tools that help officers respond more efficiently to emergencies while reducing risk for everyone involved.
