FORT WORTH, Texas (KWCH) - Wichita State raced out to a 10-point lead in the opening minutes against the AAC’s top seed but was unable to hang on in a 83-80 loss to Memphis Friday at Dickies Arena. Eighth-seeded Wichita State led 20-10 just five minutes into the AAC Tournament quarterfinal game, but a 9-0 run in two minutes pulled Memphis within striking distance and eventually to a 39-all tie at halftime. It was a 12-0 run early in the second half that put Memphis ahead 56-45, and for good. The Shockers pulled within four with 10 minutes to play, then cut an 11-point lead to four again with less than four minutes to play. Xavier Bell cut the lead to three with 12 seconds to play, and Harlond Beverly went to the free-throw line for two shots down 83-80 with 2 seconds remaining but missed both.
