Winds have been light the last 24 hours but they will start to pick back up today. As wind speeds rise, so will the threat of grassfires. Winds will be strongest to the west which has prompted Fire Weather Warnings that will be in effect during the afternoon and evening. A Fire Weather Watch has already been issued farther east for Friday.

Warm temperatures will also aid in fueling and sustaining any grassfires. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged. Any fires that are started will quickly spread and also be difficult to get under control.

The core of our next storm system will be overhead Friday. Strong winds will begin to switch out of the northwest and bring cooler air into the area.

Winds will be stronger Friday. The highest gusts will reach 55 to 60 mph. A High Wind Watch has been issued for Friday morning, afternoon, and evening.

Before our next system arrives there is a weak one that will track to our east today. Enjoy a bright start to the day before winds pick up and our weather turns active.

There will also be a chance for rain Friday with the next storm system. The best chance still looks to be in Western Kansas.

Showers will not be as numerous late Friday evening and especially during the overnight.

Moisture moves out by Saturday but it will still be windy on the backside of the storm system. Saturday will also be a cool day but we will start to warm back up after that. We also have more windy days ahead next week.
